FROM THE ARTIST
My name is Meredith Clark and I am a Senior Environmental Studies major and Studio Art minor at Denison University. This past year I have been doing my senior research for my Environmental Studies major and Studio Art concentration through the art of printmaking. In my senior research I have explored the environmental implications of the American food system, specifically animal agriculture.
I was originally inspired to explore this topic after taking a course entitled "Farmscape" which explored the American Food System through photography. Using my own experience as a vegetarian, feminist and activist, I have a critical view about the consequences of relying heavily on a typical American diet. After re-evaluating my own environmental impact through my individual food choices, I wanted to understand further the connection between agriculture, livestock, the environment, and human health. I examine this inquiry by using images taken during Farmscape, as well as other imagery, to challenge viewers to ask more questions, both about the work itself, and the social, political, and environmental context of the work.
This site is intended to document the last stage of my research, my capstone exhibition in the Denison Museum on April 19th, 2017.
